News International have taken the difficult decision to stop broadcasting Jon Gaunt´s popular SunTalk show, putting the project on hold for the time being to, “concentrate on the core business of newspapers.”
During its 18 month run, the programme was carried by Spectrum Radio here on the Costa Almeria as well as in the Costa Del Sol as well as a number of other stations across Spain and the canary Islands.
Jon Gaunt´s championing of free speech and straight forward, no nonsense presentation created a huge following on the Costa Almeria and beyond with listeners tuning in their hundreds of thousands to listen to the award winning show.
Spectrum Radio owner Richard Shanley said “It has been a great privilege to have been asked to work with one of the largest news corporations in the world,” Richard revealed “Jon has been a sensation. A consummate professional and a lovely guy both at work and socially. Jon was and remains a champion of our beautiful town of Mojacar and there have been been outside broadcasts here than in any other area that Sun Talk was transmitted in Spain. His unique relationship with Mojacar. myself and ACEM (Mojacar Business Association) is borne out by his and his family’s frequent holidays in the area, Costa Almeria being his favoured holiday destination. You can never keep a great man down and we look forward to working with Jon again in the near future.”
Although listeners will obviously be disappointed they can be assured that Spectrum Radio will continue to provide the same high quality programming it has become renowned for, with some very exciting news on its way for September.
